Education Foundation Sponsors LHS Students at Woodrow Wilson Public Affairs Seminar
Princeton - Over 200 Central Jersey high school students and their teachers had the unique opportunity to attend Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs on April 27th for a day-long public affairs forum on American democracy and global affairs. The Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) sponsored nineteen Lawrence High School students and their teacher William Tucker. Students attended two sessions which included a presentation and a question-and-answer period. The first session was led by Dr. Markus Prior, Assistant Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School, who presented the degree to which the choice between different media outlets affects how people learn about politics and elections, and impacts voter turnout and voting behavior. The afternoon session presentation was made by Ambassador Robert Hutchings, Diplomat-in-Residence at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School, who outlined the major trends in global affairs that US national security and foreign policy experts expect to see up through the year 2020. Ambassador Hutchings served from 2003 to 2005 as Chairman of the U.S. National Intelligence Council. Diane Senerth, Executive Director of LTEF, said, "The education foundation is all about excellence in education. We are so pleased to offer this amazing program to our Lawrence students through our membership in the Central New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership." Mr. Tucker was also glad that his students were able to attend. "Not only was the presentation on Mass Media and Politics also engaging and informative, but how serendipitous -- we recently explored the topic in class, and it will be on the AP Government & Politics exam this week. Once again, thank you for the opportunity to participate in such high level academic discussion.". The Central New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership is a consortium of 23 local education foundations. Its mission is to share information on best education foundation practices and to provide opportunities of mutual benefit that will enhance the success of member education foundations.
