LTEF Announces Summer 2004 Grants
LTEF is pleased to announce professional development funding was approved on April 2, 2004. For the seventh year, the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) is supporting Lawrence teachers in their efforts to pursue professional development during the summer. More than one hundred and ten Lawrence teachers will be attending workshops this summer using LTEF funds totaling over $24,000. Several workshops are planned to take place in the district and will serve the needs of large groups of teachers. Twenty five teachers are expected to attend a two-day seminar on the Wilson Reading System. Another twenty five are planning to participate in a three-day workshop on "Let Me Learn," an exploration of learning styles. Still another group of K-6 teachers will be investigating Resources on the Internet for Elementary Teachers. Other teachers will be leaving Lawrenceville to pursue training. Three nurses will attend a School Nursing Symposia in Philadelphia, while a group of twenty LIS teachers will be at The College of New Jersey learning about Differentiated Instruction in Grades 4-8. One Middle School teacher will spend a week at Confratute in Connecticut learning more about enrichment programs for that age group. Two reading teachers will attend "Motivating Your Students to Read More", while two math teachers will learn about "Math Their Way." The Education Foundation continues its support for the Responsive Classroom program by sending eight teachers for training in this method of teaching students to manage conflict and become responsible school citizens. LTEF is also supporting district participation in an Inclusive Practice Institute sponsored by the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education to be held at Rider University this summer. With LTEF funds, twenty five Lawrence teachers will be able to attend the two-day conference. The Lawrence Township Education Foundation has been in existence for twelve years and during that time has contributed over $1.2 million dollars to the Lawrence public schools. These funds have supported more than 235 programs and projects. For more information about the LTEF, please call Executive Director Diane Senerth at 219-0340 or visit the Web Site at www.ltefnj.org. |
