Author Part of 'Write Across America' Grant
How to make a dream a reality is a colossal challenge, but according to local author Lisa Willever, it can be done. Willever, a former elementary teacher, has written eleven children's books and is a partner in the Franklin Mason Publishing Company, which was named Best New Business in 2000. In addition to juggling speaking engagements throughout the country, Willever's has enjoyed the distinction of having her book Everybody Moos at Cows featured on the Rosie O'Donnell Show. Lisa Willever was a recent guest at Ben Franklin, Slackwood, Lawrence Elementary, Eldridge Park, and Lawrence Intermediate School. Students in each school had an opportunity to hear a general presentation, and third grade students in the elementary schools as well as sixth grade students in the intermediate school participated in writing workshops. Willever inspired listeners with ideas and strategies for better writing, shared tips on how to create a good story, and challenged young authors to submit their work for publication. Students and teachers are once again grateful to the Lawrence Township Education Foundation, who has long supported innovative programs and ideas in the Lawrence Township Public Schools. When LTEF successfully completed their one million penny drive this past spring, they channeled the funds back into school programs, making it possible for Lisa Willever's visit. Who knows, maybe some budding young authors are about to flower! |
