EDUCATION MAKES
CENTS The Million Penny Challenge is a fund raising activity of the
Lawrence Township Education Foundation of New Jersey
For those of you who want to go beyond simply
donating your own pennies to the cause, here are some ideas for getting a
Million Penny Challenge drive happening at your office or in your classroom.
Let us know if we can help in any
way. Good luck!
- Design your own penny collection containers. Create a
distinctive collection box for your main entrance. We used the following
source: http://www.churchstewardship.com/coins.htm
 We
printed and adhered our own labels on acetate plastic that we cut to fit on
Slotted Blank Coin Canister (#259). |
 We
used Medium Size Counter Collection Box (Lucite - #0272) and printed and
inserted our own labels on white paper. |
- Establish a time frame and financial goal. When you exceed your
goal, set a new one for the remaining time.
- Remind donors that any coins, even bills, are acceptable.
- Tell everyone the status of the amount collected. Use your
bulletin boards, web site, PA system, or closed circuit TV to make the
announcement.
- Create a large graph charting the penny drive's progress.
- Create a competition between departments or classrooms.
- Offer Prizes! Celebrate your
success.
Teachers:
- Ask a parent to volunteer counter space at their store or
office and to match a portion of the pennies collected.
- Have students explore the science, history, economics, art,
physics and mathematics of the penny. See hour
home page for ideas.
