for LTEF Grant Request

The goal of this project is to help first grade students who are reading below grade level to improve their reading skills. The "Reading Resource Program" published by Educational Books is a library of Dr. Seuss books, supporting materials and assessment tools geared to help the developing elementary school reader. The Reading Resource Program recently received a rating of "exemplary" for program quality from the U.S. Department of Education. Students reading below grade level in first grade classes at Ben Franklin, Slackwood and LES will be referred to the Project Leader who will meet with students in small groups twice a week. We have set as a goal for this project that every student will improve his or her reading level by 2.0 grades in six months The Reading Resource Program includes pre and post program assessment materials to track the progress of individual students. The provided assessments will be used in conjunction with other instruments typically used by the district to measure reading grade level.
